Hands on with the iPhone Horn Stand !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Today I received the Bone Collection iPhone Portable Amplifier Horn Stand in the mail. The Horn Stand is designed to increase the volume of your iPhone by 13 decibels without the use of batteries.

That is probably because there is nothing electronic or even metal in this amplifier. I heard of this product a few weeks ago, and I assumed that it was made of hard plastic. As it turns out, it is made of rubber, and smells kind of funny when you put your nose up close.

So does it increase the sound? Perhaps on an iPhone, yes. I tried it out on my iPod Touch, and I could barely hear a sound increase. I hope the effect on an iPhone would be equivalent to the iPod Gramophone or PhonoFone II

BlackBerry Style 9670 unveiled !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

When one thinks of BlackBerrys, one would most probably think of a rather fat candybar form factor with the famous keyboard which is a whole lot easier to hold and type, but it is nice to see Research in Motion (RIM) roll out a different form factor once in a while.

The latest model from RIM would be the BlackBerry Style 9670, which is a clamshell smartphone that features a full QWERTY BlackBerry keyboard, while running on the latest BlackBerry 6 operating system alongside a wide range of advanced communications and multimedia capabilities.

You still have slightly more than 10 days to save up for it, since Sprint will be offering the BlackBerry Style 9670 on October 31st.

Mount Everest gets 3G connectivity !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

If climbing to the top of Mount Everest is one of your life’s ambitions, then might we suggest you open a Facebook or Twitter account if you haven’t done so already.

After all, you can now surf the Web as well as make phone calls via a regular GSM 3G network on Everest, so that equals to another blow to satellite phones if you want to communicate with those at the bottom of the mountain (and friends elsewhere around the world).

Heck, video calls as well as FaceTime conversations will also be made possible from 17,388 feet above sea level. You can also tweet your exploits or update your Facebook status right there and then, thanks to network operator Ncell of Nepal.

Verizon Wireless announces Motorola Droid Pro !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Verizon Wireless does already have a slew of Android-powered smartphones in their arsenal, and they aren’t going to stop there just yet. Well, the latest device that is coming out from their stables would be the Motorola Droid Pro, being the first Android-based smartphone which is specially optimized for business use.

It will be available as a pre-sale order from select Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online at www.verizonwireless.com from November 9th onwards, although there are some reports floating around the Internet that people have already placed a purchase order – and not a pre-order, so this oversight might be something that could cost a person his or her job. Well, on to the nitty gritty in the extended post then!

LG Vortex ready for action from Verizon Wireless !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Verizon Wireless is one of the major carriers in the US, and one of their latest handsets would be the LG Vortex, where it will be made available to the masses in both online as well as brick-and-mortar stores from November 18th onwards. Since different phones cater to different people, the LG Vortex will specifically target first time smartphone users who want to kick off with the Android operating system.

This makes me wonder, for those who want to make the plunge to the world of smartphones, why not go straight for the best instead of dipping your toes per se, where clearly a mid-range smartphone will surely be outperformed by a mile compared to a high-end model. In this sense, the iPhone is the best model to follow since the only difference between Apple’s offerings would be storage space. But I digress – more on the LG Vortex in the extended post.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 fills a niche in the smartphone market !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X8 is one smartphone that is touted to fill the gap in the smartphone market, in particular, meeting the needs of consumers who are finding a slew of touchscreen smartphone handsets too large or too small for them. In other words, it fits your hand snugly, and work just fine for those digits of yours without getting in the way or creating an unsightly bulge in your pocket.

Of course, another important factor to consider these days would be pricing, as these are economically trying times, so every penny saved is always more than welcome, and the Xperia X8 certainly does its part to make sure you do not spend more than you should even on an advanced smartphone.

Altec Lansing makes iPad ownership more enjoyable !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Altec Lansing knows that there is an ever expanding market of iPad owners, judging by the device’s popularity worldwide not to mention its sex appeal across a range of people.

What better way to leverage a fast-growing user base than to roll out a peripheral which is capable of enhancing its use? That’s exactly what Altec Lansing has done, introducing the Octiv Stage docking speaker system for the iPad, iPhone and iPod.

Before you dismiss this as yet another marketing ploy to have you part with your hard earned money, why not read on and find out what the Octiv Stage is all about? It was specifically designed to significantly enhance center channel voicing for dialogue alongside stereo audio while playing media from the docked device, delivering a charge at the same time to make sure you don’t end up with a net battery loss once you’re done with your docking session. Of course, do bear in mind that non-Apple devices can still be hooked up to the Octiv Stage via the 3.5mm aux jack, but don’t expect those to be juiced when connected.

Speck has new folio-style cases for the iPad and Kindle 3 !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Speck recently introduced two more folio-style cases just in time for the upcoming holiday season, and it will be for the iPad as well as Kindle 3.

Originally, it actually became popular in the previous iteration of the Kindle, turning Speck’s DustJacket design into the industry standard where folio cases are concerned. Basically, with either folio-style cases, you are able to travel just about anywhere reading your favorite e-books and surf your favorite websites without having to worry about dropping or scratching your device.

iPad Lock is a long time in waiting !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

It is interesting to note that while there are so many notebooks and netbooks out there in the market, how many of said owners actually purchase a special kind of lock to make sure that nothing untoward happens to their precious devices whenever they are not around?

I mean, take a look around you at Starbucks and all of those other coffee places, how many people actually leave their notebooks to chance whenever they go to the loo? Perhaps it is partly due to ego, where they don’t want to be seen as paranoid by the rest of the people there, but in either case, we’re sure the iPad isn’t going to be treated with such non-chalance, never mind that it is cheaper than some notebooks and hold a whole lot less sensitive data.

iFlash adds a new dimension to your photos !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

The iPhone 4 itself is a pretty good photo taking device on its own, but what happens when you’re in a low light situation? This isn’t a dedicated digital camera, so it doesn’t have a built-in flash for you to play around with. Fret not, as there is hope in the iFlash, a £19.99 purchase that helps you to illuminate any poorly lit areas and take better photographs.

This will definitely have people wondering just how do you snap such stunning photos using the iPhone 4, where you can wryly smile at them and flash a smile of iFlash proportions as you share your little secret. Of course, this unique peripheral also doubles up as a flashlight when required, coming in handy during situations such as being in a dark cinema and needing to rummage through your bag for a ticket stub or some other important item.

It will connect to your iPhone via its charging port, and dangles from the 3.5mm slot when not in use similar to a phone charm. Of course, it will suck up a little bit of battery life in the process but in the quest for better pictures, that shouldn’t be too much to ask for, right?

Ballistic to debut Ballistic LS durable case !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

The word “ballistic” often evokes thoughts of guns and bullets, and with the company Ballistic churning out a range of advanced mobile accessories to date, they have certainly lived up to their name with quality releases so far.

As for their latest creation, the Ballistic LS, it will be shown off to the world for the first time at CES 2011 which is happening in slightly over a week’s time. You can say that expectations for the Ballistic LS is pretty high since Ballistic’s release of two other award-winning protective case models, the HC (Hard Core) and SG (Shell Gel) in this year did manage to garner massive recognition around the country.

We will take a closer look at the Ballistic LS in the extended post to see whether it is worth your money or not.

Cocoon jumps aboard the iPad accessory bandwagon !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

We know that the Apple iPad was announced just a couple of days ago, but third party accessory manufacturers have already started churning out iPad compatible items in the form of protective cases and sleeves, with Belkin being just one of them to be out of the stable doors first.

Today, we shall take a closer look at what Cocoon Innovations can offer in the form of The Gramercy. The Gramercy is a sleek, messenger sling which is capable of offering the perfect solution for organizing and securing your very own Apple iPad when you get hold of the Wi-Fi only version a couple of months from now.

blogged by GmyDotCom

So you are pretty happy with your slightly more than a week old iPad, caressing it lovingly at every turn and opportunity? blogged by GmyDotCom

Enter the Security Case for iPad, where this form fitting case will literally lock your iPad to prevent access by anyone else. Coming in a sleek and stylish black leather case, it features a three digit combination lock to make sure you (or anyone else who knows the combination) will be the only one able to use the device.

Moshi unveils mini DP to HDMI adapter !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

The most recent refresh of the MacBook Pros from Apple now come with video and audio output support via their mini DisplayPort (mini DP), and Moshi is quick to react to the situation by being one of the first few companies to roll out a mini DP to HDMI adapter that supports both audio and video using a solitary cable.

With the help of their adapter, you are able to output both video and audio from your MacBook Pro over to a HDTV or alternative display via HDMI. It comes with a stylish aluminum casing that is not only meant to be there for cosmetic purposes, since it also helps reduce EM interference.

While it will hit Apple stores throughout the US from the end of next week onwards, those who want to try other channels can check out Moshi’s own online store. The Moshi mini DP to HDMI adapter retails for $35 each.

Clickfree Transformer for iPod/iPhone !! Good Gadget !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Transferring files, especially music ones, from your iPod or iPhone to a different computer isn’t exactly rocket science, but it isn’t elementary math either. Not to mention that if you ever want to make a backup of important files, the steps involved can get complicated for the newbie.

Good thing devices such as the Clickfree Transformer for iPod/iPhone are here to help even the least tech savvy person transfer files from a computer to the iPod or iPhone’s excess storage space in a jiffy, taking the tried and true plug-and-play method.

There isn’t any software to install or further setup to do, and to make things even more idiot proof, the Clickfree will never overwrite your iPod’s existing content since it will deal only with unused storage space. Expect to pay £39.99 for some peace of mind.

And just in time for the Holidays.

Hands on with the AirCurve Play from Griffin Technology !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

It has been a while since we covered the AirCurve iPhone dock from Griffin Technologies, and I just had a chance to try out the company’s update for the iPhone 4, the AirCurve Play.

The AirCurve Play works like the Horn Stand. It is a device designed to increase the volume of the iPhone 4, but without any electronics that are found within most iPod/iPhone speaker docks.

The AirCurve Play states that it can increase the external volume by about 10 decibels. At first I wondered if that was going to make a difference, because the Horn Stand says it increases sound by 13 db. I barely heard the difference in that device.

Griffin Technology and Iceberg Kids team up and make a Woogie !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

So what is a Woogie, you ask? It has nothing to do with Chewbacca. While we are on the subject of seventies science fiction, the Woogie is not some alien that attaches to your face.

The Woogie is designed to face a problem that many Apple mobile users are facing. For some reason, young children love to play with iPhones and iPods, and these mobile devices often come back to the parents either busted or covered in a membrane of sticky goo.

The Woogie is a place to put the iPhone/iPod in a huggable shell, so it will reduce the damage by a young child. It is also serves as a speaker. It takes two AAA batteries that are stored in the stuffed animal’s stuffing, and increase the volume tremendously when it is plugged into the headphone jack.

Wallee iPad Case !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

The iPad has certainly taken off in a big way, and there are so far a thousand and one ways to make use of it, with many more ways yet undiscovered. Well, why not add another one to the list with the Wallee iPad Case? Available in black and clear versions, this £39.99 purchase will be able to turn the elegant iPad into a wall mounted solution, letting you use it as some sort of glorified digital photo frame.

You’re good to go, with the iPad clicked and locked properly in either portrait or landscape position. Of course, if you don’t want to mount your iPad with the Wallee iPad Case, you can always use it as a regular case on your travels to make sure it offers adequate protection against everyday knocks and bumps.

Nikon Coolpix S8100 zooms in on target market !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Nikon has further expanded its Coolpix family of digital cameras with another model – we’re talking about the S8100 which will come with a 12.1-megapixel backside illumination CMOS sensor that will deliver enhanced performance and outstanding image quality for high-speed shooting and low-light conditions to its owner.

Not only is it fast, responsive and versatile, the Coolpix S8100 will also sport an incredible 10X zoom which is more than capable of shooting fast-moving subjects in still images as well as HD (1080p) movies. High-speed shooting at five full resolution frames at up to 10 frames-per-second (fps), coupled with a pre-shooting cache that records up to two shots before the shutter-release is fully pressed lets you capture all the fast moving action without missing a single moment.

Of course, those who deal with even faster subjects can always track them down with the S8100’s Sports Continuous mode as it is capable of recording up to approximately 120 fps – letting you capture the moment confidently without batting an eyelid, all from a non-DSLR or Micro Four Thirds camera.

Speedo Aquashot Waterproof Camera !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

The camera will take all sorts of pictures as long as you only bring it 3 feet under the water.  If you happen to accidentally let go of it while it’s underwater, this camera won’t sink.

Instead it’ll just float to the surface.  It has a 5 megapixel sensor, 4x digital zoom, 2.4 inch LCD screen, SD memory card slots and to finish it off it’s capable of shooting VGA quality video at 30fps.

Casio EXILIM EX-H20G Hybrid GPS Digital Camera !!

Casio scores another world’s first with the EXILIM EX-H20G Hybrid GPS digital camera, making it the ideal traveling companion. Why do we say so? Well, the integrated Hybrid GPS system will deliver ultra-precise location data for the geotagging of photos and videos.

Sounds normal, but you would be stoked to know that this is also the first camera that is able to geotag indoors. Yup, we’ve said it – you can even go into your home without missing a beat, snapping away happily while having those images tagged. Apart from that, you can also view your location on the camera itself thanks to a pre-loaded map on the EX-H20G.

For those who are not in the know, the NX10 is Samsung’s first mirrorless camera and the first in the world to feature an APS-C size sensor.

Among the technology found in the new NX100 include a similar APS-C size sensor, a 3-inch AMOLED screen for easy and clear viewing, the aforementioend intuitive i-Function lens, and one of the fastest autofocus on the market today to make sure you are there to capture all moments, any time of the day.

DSLR turned into pinhole camera !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Any photography lover can’t help but have a little bit of an appreciation for pinhole camera photography.  Now that doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone wants to own yet another camera in order to achieve the look.

If you do want to pick up that style, now it could be as simple as switching out your lens cap thanks to these SLR Pinhole Body Caps.

Samsung has new firmware for NX10 camera !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Samsung isn’t famous yet when it comes to digital cameras, but that doesn’t mean the South Korean consumer electronics giant isn’t trying its level best to break into the market. Their NX10 mirrorless camera was a pretty good start compared to its range of entry level consumer digital cameras, and we’re stoked to see the company announce the availability of a firmware upgrade for the NX10, bumping up the version to 1.20.

Just what does firmware upgrade 1.20 bring to the table? For starters, we are looking at compatibility with Samsung’s innovative new i-Function lens technology, providing photographers as well as avid shutterbugs with an avenue to control the camera easily via the lens itself. More on this magical experience in the extended post.

Canon Cross Media Station can charge cameras and download photos !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

What you are seeing here is Canon’s Cross Media Station. It is technology that is probably years before public release, but it does some pretty amazing things.

To start, it is a wireless charger for a camera. I have seen wireless charging stations like the Powermat and Wildcharger before, and this thing has an indicator to show when your Canon camera has the correct amount of juice.

Another feature is its ability to sort out pictures on an HDTV. You can see in the video after the jump a spokesperson placing a camera on the station itself, and getting a patchwork quilt of pictures.

Panasonic announces Lumix DMC-GF2!!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Panasonic has announced the successor to one of the highly sought after Micro Four Thirds shooter to date known as the Lumix DMC-GF1, which is the logically named Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2. This compact mirrorless camera is also Panasonic’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens system camera, where it will feature a built-in flash to boot.

The Lumix GF2 will play nice with lenses from the Micro Four Thirds standard, which means the system is not only small but compact, and yet will not compromise ease of operation or image quality. Not only that, the Lumix GF2 will also be able to work with Panasonic’s new 3D interchangeable lens, which is the LUMIX G 12.5mm/F12, letting you snap 3D photos without missing a beat.

Hands on with the DXG-A85V Pro Gear Camera !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

The cameras certainly look alike, and they are both 1080p video-capable with a 3 inch Touchscreen display. One of the upgrades is that the DXG-A85V has a 12X Optical Zoom instead of the 5X that the A80V has.

Both are capable of 1080p at 30fps (frames per second), but the A80V can do 1080i in 60fps, while the A85V can do 720p at that 60 frame rate.

Rollei to offer 3D digital camera !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Do you love how stereoscopic 3D technology has changed the way the consumer electronics scene worked this year? Perhaps you’re sick of listening to arguments on which 3D viewing technology is best, and just want to get on with your life, but one thing’s for sure – 3D is here to say, and it isn’t going to go away anytime soon.

Rollei too, wants to have a say in the world of stereoscopic 3D, and they are certainly not pulling any stops with their latest digital camera, the Power Flex 3D. Of course, that will be accompanied by a digital picture frame as well that does 3D, bringing a complete feast for your eyes. Rollei’s new 3-D devices are equipped with the special Parallax barrier display technology, which allows you to view 3D images and videos without the need to wear a dorky looking pair of glasses – now how about that?

Momma Kodak did take my Kodachrome away !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

We’ve seen a lot of changes in traditional film since the rise of digital film, including the discontinuation of Polaroid instant film. Now, here comes another one: Kodak has announced that they are ending production on Kodachrome film.

If you’ve never heard of Kodachrome, you should know that it is a film that uses a fine grain and warm colors. There are several pictures taken with Kodachrome that are considered landmarks today. Some of you might remember a green-eyed Afghan refugee girl with a hypnotic gaze on the cover of a 1985 National Geographic. That was a Kodachrome pic, as was a very famous photo taken of the Kennedy assassination.

How to Deposit a Check using an iPhone !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

As a freelance writer, I receive most of the payments for my services online, but every once in a while, I get a check in the mail and have to go to the bank to deposit it.

It would appear that USAA bank is removing any reason for me to go to the bank with an iPhone app that allows me to deposit my checks virtually. All I need to do is take a picture of the front of my check with the iPhone, then turn the check over and snap the back of it.

Once I hit e-send, the money is in the bank.
Of course, I don’t have an iPhone, and that is the case for many others. Another limitation on this new paperless service is it is currently only available for active-duty military personnel. I guess that just makes sense, doesn’t it? How can someone stationed in Iraq make a run to the bank?
