BlackBerry Style 9670 unveiled !!

blogged by GmyDotCom

When one thinks of BlackBerrys, one would most probably think of a rather fat candybar form factor with the famous keyboard which is a whole lot easier to hold and type, but it is nice to see Research in Motion (RIM) roll out a different form factor once in a while.

The latest model from RIM would be the BlackBerry Style 9670, which is a clamshell smartphone that features a full QWERTY BlackBerry keyboard, while running on the latest BlackBerry 6 operating system alongside a wide range of advanced communications and multimedia capabilities.

You still have slightly more than 10 days to save up for it, since Sprint will be offering the BlackBerry Style 9670 on October 31st.

BlackBerry PlayBook!!

blogged by GmyDotCom

The latest toy from Toys R’ Us or Mattel.  It’s actually the tablet computer from RIM, makers of the iconic Blackberry smartphones.  It used to be called the Blackpad by the media, which I thought was a rather silly name for a device.  It does not run the Blackberry OS.  Instead, the PlayBook runs an operating system called QNX (now renamed “BlackBerry Tablet OS“), which is Linux based.  QNX was purchased by RIM, presumably specifically for the purpose of developing this tablet.

Specifications:
  • Ideal for games, media, apps and everything the real Internet offers
  • Full Adobe® Flash® 10.1 enabled

  • No-compromise, beautiful rendering of text, graphics and video

Maxis Launches Blackberry Curve 3G 9300 Plan!!

blogged by GmyDotCom

And it’s available in either prepaid or postpaid plans.  For prepaid, the deal is pay RM 1,479, and get the phone (RRP = RM 1,299) plus 6 months of the prepaid Blackberry internet service (BIS). The 6 months of BIS service is supposedly worth RM 660 (=(RM 1,479 – 1,299) + RM 480), or RM 110 per month.  I honestly do not know what plan this is, to tell you the truth – it doesn’t jive with anything on the Hotlink prepaid BIS packages page.

For the postpaid option, you pay RM 1,659 (RM 1,299 for the phone, plus RM 360 for 12 months of the BIS Advanced plan which normally costs RM 120 monthly), so you save RM 1,080 by paying for the phone and 12 months service up-front.

BlackBerry Torch 9800 Smartphone!! Coming Soon on DiGi!!

blogged by GmyDotCom
It comes with the new BlackBerry 6 operating system and there is a lot to be excited about. BlackBerry 6 has something for everyone and personally, I am particularly enjoying the new universal search and auto-wrap text zoom features.

With the new BlackBerry Torch smartphone, we also believe our hardware team has delivered the best combined touch-qwerty experience available, seamlessly incorporating our signature BlackBerry keyboard and precision trackpad in a striking design that simply feels great in your hand. One of the things I love the most about the BlackBerry Torch design is the way it allows me to easily transition between using the touch screen, trackpad and keyboard interfaces. I can switch between them and interact with the handset and applications in a very natural way.

The BlackBerry Torch is also the first BlackBerry smartphone to ship with our new web browser and we invested a substantial amount of time and effort to engineer a WebKit-based browser that can operate quickly, beautifully and efficiently. In fact, Peter Rysavy today released a new study reporting on the efficiency of the BlackBerry 6 Browser with respect to data usage. We continue to believe that efficiency is an important advantage for our customers and an imperative for the wireless industry.

blogged by GmyDotCom

Powerful and refined, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone for T-Mobile includes built-in support for both 3G connectivity and voice calls over Wi-Fi networks (802.11b/g). Enabled for T-Mobile's expanding high-speed 3G network, the Bold 9700 offers fast data delivery and an enhanced Web-browsing experience that lets you connect quickly to social networking sites such as Facebook. And, of course, you'll enjoy all the communication and connectivity features you've come to expect from a BlackBerry phone--including email served up by the BlackBerry Internet Service and a full menu of messaging options (SMS, MMS, and IM).

Offering top-of-the-line performance and functionality, it features a sophisticated, high-gloss black finish, chrome highlights and leatherette back. It also includes a distinctive, highly tactile full-QWERTY keyboard for fast and accurate typing, and an innovative touch-sensitive optical trackpad, which makes for a great navigation experience.

The built-in GPS supports navigation and location-based services via the included BlackBerry Maps application. The 1st 3G & 802.11n BlackBerry!! BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105!!

blogged by GmyDotCom

Encased in a nicely slimmed-down version of the familar Pearl body, this BlackBerry has a conventional numeric keypad, 3G & WiFi - & iPhone-matching 802.1n WiFi at that.
The Pearl 3G also has BlackBerry's trademark email system, which remains painless to set up, reliable & swift. Even though the Pearl's keypad means you have to type emails SMS-style, it's still better than its rivals overall.

The SureType predictive text is efficient, offering spot-on suggestions quickly so you can text at speed. However, despite looking more modern, the touch-sensitive trackpad isn't quite as reliable as the original Pearl's trackball.

BlackBerry IS 5 looks a little dated, but the Pearl has the same processor as the top-of -the-range BlackBerry Bold 9700, so it's at least zippy & responsive.

The 2.25-inch screen is pokey compared to the touchscreen devices here. However, it's bright sharp & readable in anything short of direct sunlight, while the reduced size helps the battery life, which is the best on test & means you won't need to charge up every day.

The BlackBerry App World is more corner shop than megastore, with fewer than 7,000 apps. Multimedia is nothing to write home about with a 3.2-MP camera with LED flash being the high point.

Specification
OS: BlackBerry OS5
Processor: 624Mhz
Storage: 256MB, microSD up to 32GB
Screen: 2.25-inches, 400 x 360 LCD
Connectivity: 3.6Mbps HSPDA, N Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, A-GPS, 3.5mm audio
Camera: 3.2MP, autofocus, LED Flash
Video: 640 x 480, 30fps
3G talk Time: 5 hours
Web Browsing Time: Not quoted

RIM's Blackberry!! apps of Word Processing!!

blogged by GmyDotCom

eWord (part of eOffice)
Not a very new word processing app, it has been around for a few years. As one of the very first word processors for the Blackberry, it has withstood the test of time, & is still just as powerful.

Particularly outstanding about this app is that it can create & edit Microsoft Word documents right in the Blackberry. As most Blackberry smartphones have a trackball, you use it to navigate through files, folders & documents.

After you're done with editing, you can actually send your document out as an email, right within the app itself. So, naturally, you can also receive, send & edit any email attachments. As usual, you have the normal facilities like cutting, copying & pasting of text, changing fonts, styles, sizes & creating indented paragraphs & bullet points.

What Can We Expect From BlackBerry 6?

post by GmyDotCom

The really funny thing about this question is that the short answer could very well be? looking very much like the iphone. Not the iphone as in its physical form; rather, the new BlackBerry OS has taken on some of the user interfaces & gestures of its competitor into heart.

The old & faithful full-QWERTY keypad is still there on most BlackBerry Smartphones. That's what a BlackBerry is really all about: the facility that allows tapping on a full set of keys. Then again, is that full-QWERTY still there? Things Change, & BlackBerry has been going with the flow. & this flow transcribe to a smaller keypad now. On some new BlackBerry smartphones, a key would do the work of two keys now.

These days, desirable smartphones got to  have touchscreen capability too. So, in came the innovation of touchscreen into new BlackBerry smartphones, especially the Storm. Released more than a year back, BlackBerry Storm was RIM's first touchscreen device. It didn't even have any physical keyboard.

Not only just touchscreen. The new OS brings us multitouch. You can now do pinch & zoom when running the BlackBerry's browser. This is also applied to the picture viewer. As for the gestures to use on other user interfaces, there seems to be some kind of tapping the display to select a menu & swiping to go to the next generation.

Besides this, BlackBerry 6.0 supports gestured & others like kinetic scrolling & rubber banding. Rubber banding makes the screen "bounce" at the top & bottom when you do flick scrolling right up to the ends. And you can preprogram "momentum" to the scrolling, so that after swiping, the pages keep on gliding to a gradual stop. Now where have we seen this before?

Using gestures you can also bring up some new modal popups. To pop up an icon set of menu that has context menu items, just tap & hold on a display. These contextual menus pop up in the middle of the screen as a box. They don't just appear down from the top-left corner any more. To get notification, you do a pull-down gesture.

What's nice about this kind of touch features is even if a Blackberry has no touchscreen, you can still apply similar touch gestured onto an optical trackpad. This is like killing two bids with one stone.

The hype about the new Blackberry OS is the key words for the images: "crisp" icons. Apparently the graphics have gone through some drastic overhaul. So these "crisp" icons & graphics are more animated & have transaction.

These new images live in a new Home screen. You can get multiple views, depending on the content type. As for more animated graphics, the new OS utilizes animation APIs that can animate practically anything in the screen, & the animation is optimized natively.

There is a useful app currently for the BlackBerry to create shortcuts, call ShortCutMe. Now, you don't need it, as the new OS can do this natively.

BlackBerry's new media player copies the way album covers enlarge in the middle as you swipe left or right, when selecting an album to play.

The camera on a device running this new OS will not just shoot pictures & videos, The barcode reading facility is still there. & new barcode enhancements has made the camera's viewfinder scan barcodes of such new formats as 1D(UPC, ITF-14) & 2D (Data Matrix, QR Code).

The new OS utilizes a special cellsite geolocation API which can activate on location services, & which uses crowd sourced data for cell tower positions.
