NEW PUBLIC 3+8 CELLULAR PHONE NUMBERING IN MALAYSIA
From 15 December 2010, Celcom will introduce an 8 digit mobile number with 011 prefix for new mobile phone subscribers.

Existing Celcom customers mobile numbers will remain unchanged.
This effort by Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM) is to counter the shortage of mobile numbers in the country and to ensure the success of the numbering plan programme in supporting the Government’s strategic initiatives towards increasing the national broadband penetration rate.

Celcom Prepaid Broadband Starter Pack Promo!!

Celcom is now selling the prepaid broadband starter pack for RM 12.50 preloaded with RM 10 credit.  

Or you can pay RM 128 for a USB modem (I’ve no clue as to the brand/model) plus a starter pack. 

The price hasn’t changed – it’s still RM 6 for 24 hours of continuous access, or RM 20 for a week of continuous access.

CELCOM Introduces Micro Sim Cards In MALAYSIA!!

CELCOM INTRODUCES MICRO SIM CARDS IN MALAYSIA
KUALA LUMPUR, 21 SEPTEMBER 2010 – Celcom Axiata Berhad [formerly known as Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad] will introduce the micro SIM in October at all Celcom branches and selected Blue Cube centres. Devices in the market that currently use the micro SIM are the iPhone 4 and the iPad 3G.

“With the arrival of devices that utilise a micro SIM, we want to ensure that our customers have the best possible user experience, whatever device they may be using,” said Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Celcom’s Chief Executive Officer. “We do not want anyone to miss out on enjoying all the advantages of Malaysia’s no.1 mobile broadband network,” he added.

The micro SIM, measuring 15mm in width and 12mm in height is smaller than the standard SIM card (25mm in width and 15mm in height). Starting from 1 October, Celcom customers will be able to walk into any Celcom branch and selected Blue Cube outlets and exchange their standard SIM card with a micro SIM for a nominal fee of RM10. Customers subscribing to a new mobile broadband plan can also select a micro SIM instead of the standard SIM.

Celcom’s mobile broadband plans are available from as low as RM38 a month for existing postpaid customers, while adhoc prepaid and postpaid users can get broadband access at only RM6 per day.

XPAX has NEW BlackBerry Messenger Plan!!

XPAX is the first operator in Asia Pacific to offer a prepaid BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) Plan, aimed at the youth market.

BlackBerry owners can now type BB ON & send to 28882. & for only 50 sen a day Xpax users can reach the BlackBerry community from all networks via BBM & with unlimited access. Only for these users they use their PIN or barcode as a unique symbol of the owner. They can update status & avatars with shared pictures, voice noted & transfer up to 6MB media files.

This package contains BlackBerry offerings like social networking, Internet browsing, push emails, instant messaging & others. Users can upload pictures, comment, schedule group meetings, share calenders, activities, updates & social events.

Celcom announces Android Application Contest!!

If you're thinking of developing an app for the Android phone, this is the opportune time. Celcom has announced a competition via its League of Extraordinary Developers Challenge (LEDC) program, called LEDC-Android Application Contest. It will run from 1 August until 31 October 2010.

Winning developers will receive promotion & commercialization of applications & services. Their applications developed will come under the guidance & mentoring of Industry expects. & this is followed with an exclusive revenue sharing contract with Celcom of up to 80:20 among other cash prizes worth RM20,000.

A local training partner iTrain will train Malaysian developers in a series of Beginning Android Development training & workshops. iTrain work closely with the Google Technology User Gloup & the CodeAndroid Malaysia User Gloup.

Judging will be based on uniqueness & creativity of their application ideas, skills, experience, innovation & most importantly, synchronization with Celcom's product & services strategy.
