DiGi & Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC) gave out 100 Netbooks to students from low income families in Pulau Banggi, Kudat, Sabah.
They received them from Minister of Information Communication & Culture, YB Dato' Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim at the launch of the 1Malaysia Broadband-Netbook Programm.
Within the next few weeks more selected students in Kudat & the surrounding areas will be getting another 400 units.
Throughout this Programme & in stages, DiGi will be giving out some 6,500 netbooks to students living in the areas surrounding DiGi's 13 Community Broadband Centres (CBCs).
DiGi's Director of Corporate Affair, Zaiton Hj.Idrus said, "DiGi supports the Government's effort in bridging the digital divide whilst developing a knowledge society towards its goal of becoming a high-income economy by 2020". She added, " Recognising that many of these children have never before touched a netbook, much less too be connected to the internet, we have coordinated with MCMC to organize a day's training for the children & a special tutoring on how to get connected with DiGi mobile Internet. Anyone can sponsor a computer, but to be really committed & Fully engaged, we strive to go the extra mile by organizing training session for these children. This is our continued commitment as we establish more & more CBCs nationwide".
